The pool at Bondi Beach
Do you already know the coolest pool in Australia?
The pool at Bondi Beach in the Australian metropolis is a sight you definitely shouldn’t miss! The best thing about it? You can take a dip yourself and swim laps in the legendary pool on the coast of Australia!
Crystal-clear, turquoise sea water, the white, foaming surf and the breathtaking backdrop of Bondi Beach – at first glance, it looks like something from another world. For more than a century, the pool on Australia’s most famous beach has defied the waves, which tend to be a bit wilder, especially in the early morning hours.
Bondi Beach – what a pool
As a rule, the seawater pool is always a little colder than the adjacent ocean, which is certainly not a bad thing given the hot Australian temperatures in summer. The ice-blue water and the waves that repeatedly foam into the pool from the sea are probably unique in the world.
“This pool is unique in the world”
Of course, it is not a must to immediately pull out your speedos and goggles and swim a few lengths in the 50-meter-long pool. The members of the local swimming club “Bondi Icebergs” already do that. If you like, you can simply enjoy the great view or cool off in the small pool on site – it’s entirely up to you.
The winter swimmers of Bondi Icebergs
In winter, it can get pretty cold, even in Sydney. People swim in the Bondi Icebergs Pool all year round, no matter how low the temperature drops. The swimming club members are tough and even dare to go into the icy pool when the water temperature is well below 16 degrees. “It’s never cold enough! You’re an Iceberg! Toughen up!” is what the club’s membership rules say.
“It’s never cold enough!”
For us in Germany that would mean: Don’t be such a wimp! I don’t know about you, but the thought of the icy sea water makes me shiver. I would definitely prefer a trip to the pool at Bondi Beach in the summer. But don’t forget that the seasons in Australia are a little different to ours. From June to August the temperature can drop below 7 degrees, so plan your visit outside of these months.
It’s the best view in town!
In addition to the ice-blue pool, the Bondi Icebergs Club building is also a real eye-catcher. The white facade and the panoramic windows allow visitors to have a breathtaking view of the legendary Bondi Beach and the roaring surf in which the iceberg pool is embedded. In the club restaurant, you not only get a great view of the bay but also Australian seafood and other specialties.
You can sit on the balcony in the Sundeck Café and feel the sea breeze. The restaurant is a little more expensive, but it’s worth it for the great view! In addition to the club restaurant and bar, you can also use the spa, gym and another pool. Even yoga courses are offered regularly – simply unique in this setting!
Experience Australia at its best
I think we can all agree: The pool at Bondi Beach is truly unique and definitely belongs on your bucket list! If your trip to Australia has to wait a little longer, you can dream with me of the sound of the surf and the smell of sea salt while you imagine spending a day in this beautiful place.
